Charly Black continues to make strides in the mainstream music market.
The Trelawny dancehall deejay recently signed a multi-album record deal with Universal Music. The full details of the deal are not yet known, but sources told us it’s a multi-million dollar deal comprising of five albums. Charly Black has been putting up some big numbers on Spotify with over a 100 million streams and even getting a taste of Billboard success. His single “Gyal You A Party Animal” has been certified diamond after selling over 10 million copies worldwide.
Black’s deal is through Aftercluv Dancelab, Universal Music Latin Entertainment which makes sense since he has had the most impact in the Latin American market over the past two years. “There’s been a great synergy working with Universal/Aftercluv so far, we’ve had some great successes and have broken a lot of barriers together already,” the dancehall star said. “I’m happy about the deal and looking forward to partnering with them now on a bigger scale to make more great music and continue to represent dancehall and Jamaica on an international level.”
Charly Black manager, Julian Jones-Griffith, says the deal has no expiration date since its a multi-album deal so the deejay can take his time to put out his best music. Universal/Aftercluv managing director, Luis Estrada, expressed his excitement of having Black on board the label.
“We are extremely excited to have him as a member of the Aftercluv family,” Estrada said. “He’s a prolific singer-songwriter and the leader of the new generation of dancehall music, as well as a perfect reflection of what Universal/Aftercluv represents, global cultural dance music.”
Charly Black next album is slated for release sometime in 2018. He also has a new song out now after being tapped for Juan Magan’s “You’re Perfect (Remix).” The deejay says fans can expect big things from him next year.
